This April, The Staten Island Children’s Museum invites everyone for a fun-filled month of entertainment. For the opening of the Spring season, we will have several exciting events—such as music with Bilingual Birdies, dancing with Walter Rutledge, and even acrobatics with Cosmos Cirque. Also, it will be a great destination during NYC Schools’ Spring Recess because we will be open daily from Monday, April 22nd through Tuesday, April 30th with activities happening each day including a sensory playroom! Explore all these events and more at the Staten Island Children’s Museum, where curiosity and creativity are nurtured.
In honor of Earth Day, young artists will be able to make Sustainable Sculptures using recycled materials in our Walk-in! Workshop. Stop by from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm during the week and from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekends.
On Saturday, April 6, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, an audience favorite, The Grand Falloons Science Circus will present a program focused on the elements of the atmosphere, the importance of waste reduction, and actionable energy conservation methods. Through life-sized puppetry, juggling, live music, and comedy, they will investigate all things gas– where does it come from, where does it go, and why is this important?
Saturday, April 13, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, visitors can enjoy “Through the Decades,” an uplifting chorus event by the GRACE-ful Glee Club. The GRACE Foundation GRACE-ful Glee Club is a performing arts program for individuals impacted by autism spectrum disorder. GRACE-ful Glee participants perform in the community to share their talents, creativity, and to inspire and empower the need for inclusion and diversity.
On April 14, 25, and 27, honor the taste of home with the Pantry Staples recipe series at the ShopRite Kidz Cook workshop. These caregiver-and-me classes are a great opportunity for children to be introduced to different kinds of foods and hone their dexterity as they work with cooking utensils. Sessions will be held at 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm.
Prepare to go on a musical journey with Bilingual Birdies on Sunday, April 21! From 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, families will learn new vocabulary and celebrate diversity in an energetic and interactive concert.
For NYC Public Schools Spring Recess, Monday, April 22nd – Tuesday, April 30th – we will have fun going on each day. The Gallery will be transformed into a Sensory Playroom where children of all ages can play with sensory bins filled with different textured items, such as foam soap, polished wooden balls, and more.
On Monday, April 22, at 4:00 pm, we invite you to transform your afternoon with DJ Baba Yako. He will perform his vibrant selection of Afrobeat music – a genre known for its infectious rhythms and rich cultural influences.
Tuesday, April 23rd from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, visitors will experience heart-pounding excitement with Staten Island-based Cosmos Cirque: Trapeze and Acrobatics. Their performers will demonstrate aerial arts and acrobatics and include the audience in basic stretching moves that circus artists do.
On Wednesday, April 24, IlluminArt Productions, Mr. J will guide visitors in using bodies and voices to create fantastical soundscapes inspired by the four elements through fun games and lively music. Workshops will take place at 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm, 3:30 pm.
Travel through time and space on an exploration of musical history on Friday, April 26, at the Roots of Rhythm workshop with S’Cool Sounds. Visitors will learn about a variety of exciting percussion instruments and their geographic origins. Participants will play different rhythms as they learn about key musical elements. Workshops will take place at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm.
On April 28th, throughout the day, visitors can groove at the Spring Break Dance Party with choreographer and dancer, Walter Rutledge! Dancers come together for a fun celebration of rhythm, movement, and pure joy! Workshops will take place at 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00.
